Barpa has successfully completed the new Perth office fit-out for the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF), transforming a former Motorola office in Burswood into a welcoming and functional space that supports ACF’s vital work with children, young people, families and communities.
Engaged directly by ACF under a design and construct model, Barpa supported the project from the outset, assisting with early cost planning to help secure funding before progressing through design, approvals and construction. With ACF’s existing lease coming to an end and the organisation needing more space, the project required a practical, cost-conscious approach that balanced programme, budget and quality.
The existing fit-out was remodelled to meet ACF’s operational needs, including six counselling rooms, training and meeting rooms, offices, breakout spaces, a large open-plan workspace and a new staff lunchroom. The amenities were also upgraded to provide compliant ambulant male WCs.
Given ACF’s role as a not-for-profit organisation, Barpa worked closely with subcontractors, suppliers and workers to identify savings and additional support. Contributions included donated LED downlights, repurposed glazed partitions and doors, and Barpa assembling and placing staff desks outside the original contract scope.
The project was delivered on time and demonstrated how strong planning, communication and collaboration can help manage budget and programme risk while achieving a high-quality outcome.
As part of Barpa’s Community 2Day initiative, the local Barpa and Icon team also supported ACF’s transition by assisting with the move and patching and repainting walls at ACF’s previous East Perth premises to help return the site to the landlord, at no cost to the client.
The new office was officially opened with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Aunty Glenda Kickett and her son, recognising the importance of culture, connection and healing. A beautiful mural by proud Wangkatha-Yamatji artist Kayley Emery now welcomes visitors into the space, highlighting the powerful connection between culture and healing.
Kate Sanders, Senior Manager at Australian Childhood Foundation, acknowledged the partnership, saying:
“Your commitment and dedication to ACF have been truly remarkable, and it has been a privilege to work alongside such a fantastic team.”
This project marks Barpa’s second successful project for ACF and reflects our commitment to delivering spaces that make a meaningful difference for the organisations and communities they serve.
