Project: RAAF Base Darwin Sergeants Mess Refurbishment
Completion Date: March 2020
Completion Time: 4 Months
Value: $1M
The project consisted of externally and internally refurbishing the Sergeant's Mess building at RAAF Base Darwin. The scope of works included external and internal painting, flooring replacements, bathroom fitouts and commercial kitchen equipment replacement.
The team successfully overcame several challenges including complying with the building’s heritage requirements, working on an operational base and delivering the project during Darwin’s ‘Wet Season’
The building is managed under the Heritage Management Plan for RAAF Base Darwin and a substantial amount of lead paint remediation was carried out requiring the engagement of a hazardous materials consultant prior to commencement. The refurbishment increased operational functionality and preserved and extended the appearance of the building .
A ‘zero harm’ outcome was achieved through comprehensive and uncompromising management of risk; particularly those risks relating to health, safety and the environment (HSE).
