Project: RAAF Point Cook Hanger A0185 Refurbishment
Completion Date: November 2022
Completion Time: 8 Months
Value: $1.3M

Barpa undertook the refurbishment of heritage-listed Hangar A0185, located at RAAF Point Cook, Victoria – the birthplace of the Australian Flying Corps and the Royal Australian Air Force.

The hangar forms part of the RAAF Museum which displays aircraft of significance to the RAAF from its inception as the Australian Flying Corps to the present.

Point Cook was established in March 1913 as the location for the Central Flying School and has the oldest continually operating military airfield in the southern hemisphere

The project involved the structural assessment and remediation of columns, roof and wall support structures, the replacement of electrical lighting and accessories with energy efficient products and fire safety compliance works.

As an operational museum, display items within Hangar A0185 could not be relocated, and no temporary storage was available on base. This required careful planning and execution to minimise disruption to the museum's operations and protect its valuable exhibits.

This project not only ensures compliance with modern standards but also respects the historical significance of the site, preserving it for future generations.
