Barpa Celebrates 10 years

July 25, 2024

From little things big things grow…

In 2014, Barpa was established as part of an ambitious initiative led by the Federation of Victorian Traditional Owner Corporations, aimed at fostering economic growth, enhancing capacity, and providing employment and training opportunities for First Nations people.

Collaborating with Icon, the Federation created a construction enterprise designed to innovate the industry by empowering Indigenous individuals and businesses nationwide. This partnership marked a unique convergence between Australia’s oldest living culture and Victoria’s longest-standing construction firm, operational since 1861.

A decade on, Barpa stands as a testament to Indigenous business success, having solidified its reputation as a respected builder across Australia in sectors including Defence, Health, Education, and Social Infrastructure

Successfully delivering a broad range of construction projects across Australia, each project has been a testament to our commitment to Indigenous engagement and empowerment, excellence, innovation, and hard work. The team at Barpa has steadily grown to more than 100 people, making us the largest Indigenous construction business in the country.

At Barpa, we believe businesses can achieve both social impact and commercial success. Targets are not our endpoint but our starting point, driving us to maximise our positive contributions whenever possible. We are immensely proud of our achievements and remain committed to our mission.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all current and former staff for their invaluable contributions, to our owners, the Federation and Icon, for their unwavering support and leadership, to our clients for their trust, to the Project Managers we’ve worked with, and to all the consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers who have collaborated with us to deliver exceptional projects.

We eagerly anticipate what the future holds!
