As part of the NSW Government's $940 million redevelopment of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Barpa secured the enabling works contract prepare the site for main works construction.
Works included a new purpose built facility for the Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology Department, the addition of a comms room in the existing building, and a range of enhancements including reconfiguring the Gloucester House forecourt, raising Gloucester House pedestrian link bridge to allow travel of large vehicles under the bridge, construction of a new turning bay on Lambie Dew Drive in front of the existing hospital loading dock, and modifications to the landscaped areas.
The Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology Department component involved the integration of two services - Tissue Pathology and Diagnostic Oncology and Cytology - previously contained within separate buildings.
The departments needed a modern facility better equipped to meet their current and future requirements. The building chosen to house them required a substantial refurbishment and fit out to contain multiple laboratories with interconnected disciplines and core facilities. The facilities are positioned contiguously, with supporting areas including a separate specimen reception area, education, clinical case conference and training areas, administrative support, and managerial staff collocation.
