Barpa successfully delivered the Senior Amentities Upgrade at the Sunnybank State High School on the lands of the Yuggera People.
The works comprised the erection and completion of a new Sports Store, the repurposing of the existing Sports Store into a new Senior Amenities block, and the demolition of the existing Senior Amenities block. There were also works to the existing covered walkways and landscaping to the demolished amenities and outdoor Learning Areas.
Barpa’s delivery team overcame a unique set of challenges to deliver the project before the prescribed program date. Although there was no mandated Indigenous spend target on the Sunnybank SHS project, by the end of the project Barpa achieved an overall Indigenous spend of approximately 10%.
Barpa's Indigenous Project Manager worked with the Sunnybank SHS and local Yuggera Tradtional Owners to develop an bespoke Aboriginal artwork that included the Yuggera totem, the Magpie Lark, to provide furhter Indigenous intergration at the school. The artwork has been installed in the recreation area for all staff, students and visitors to see.
